About Harp Media | Film Company Longford

Founded in 2018, Harp Media is a multi-discipline film production company based in the midlands. We develop short and feature length films for general audiences, create corporate videos for brands and companies and provide training initiatives in all areas of filmmaking. We cover all aspects of production from idea generation to post production.

Our debut feature film  ‘Lakelands‘ was filmed on location in Granard, Co. Longford, and stars Éanna Hardwicke (Normal People, Vivarium), Danielle Galligan (Netflix’s Shadow and Bone), Lorcan Cranitch (Bloodlands, The Dig), Dafhyd Flynn (Michael Inside), Dara Devaney (Arracht), and Gary Lydon (Calvary). It won Best Irish Film at Galway Film Fleadh and Kerry Film Festival. It won the Bankside Award at the Galway Film Fleadh for best marketplace project and has been acquired for UK and Ireland release by Wildcard Distribution.

Our most recent short film ‘Drifting’ star Bafta winner Paul Mescal (Normal People), IFTA nominee Dafhyd Flynn (Michael Inside) and IFTA nominee (Lorcan Cranitch (The Dig). The film premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh last summer and has been acquired for worldwide distribution with Oscar-winning distributor Network Ireland Television. It has recently screened at a number of Oscar and BAFTA qualifying festivals over the last number of months and will screen at the Dublin International Film Festival in March 2021. It has been profiled in the Irish Times, Irish Independent, Irish Examiner, NME, Dazed magazine and more. The trailer has been viewed over 400,000 times on all platforms.

Our first film ‘Angels Guard Thee’ stars Brian Fortune (Game of Thrones) and John Quinn (Love/Hate) and was released in 2018. The short was completed with the assistance of the Longford Arts Office and has toured to fifteen festivals thus far including Cork Film Festival, Dublin International Short Film Festival, Queens Film Festival, Switzerland Film Festival, Southampton Film Festival and more. It won Best Cinematography at the Queens Film Festival in New York. The film was sold to RTÉ and was broadcast as part of their Shortscreen programme in 2019.

Harp Media was awarded runner-up in the Best Idea category of the Longford final of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur in 2018 and Best Start-up category in 2019. Harp Media has received funding from bodies such as the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, Creative Ireland, Arts Council and Longford Arts Office.

Robert Higgins - Harp Media

Robert Higgins is an award-winning director, writer, producer and co-founder of Harp Media. He recently co-wrote and directed his debut feature film ‘Lakelands’ which stars Éanna Hardwicke (Normal People, Vivarium), Danielle Galligan (Netflix’s Shadow and Bone), Lorcan Cranitch (Bloodlands, The Dig), Dafhyd Flynn (Michael Inside), Dara Devaney (Arracht), and Gary Lydon (Calvary). He has eight years’ experience working in media, digital marketing and communications. He has worked on video content and marketing campaigns for the National Library of Ireland, Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the Simon Cumbers Media Fund, amongst others. He has extensive experience in PR, Marketing and Videography experience through his time with DHR Communications, M+C Communications and Helium Arts.

His fiction has appeared in New Irish Writing, Irish Times, Irish Independent, RTE Radio One, Ropes, as well as anthologies by New Island and Doire Press. He has had two play produced by Fregoli Theatre Company and the Corps Ensemble respectively. His journalism has been featured in Irish Examiner, Irish Times, Hot Press, Drowned in Sound, JOE.ie, State, the Thin Air, among others.

He was nominated for Emerging Writer at the Hennessy Literary Awards in 2014 and 2020. He won the Student Short Story of the Year Award in 2013. His work has been shortlisted for prizes such as the Galway Pitching Competition, Over the Edge New Writer of the Year, Fish Short Story Award, Doire Press Chapbook Competition and the Student Media Screenplay of the Year.

He has an MA in Media and Communications, a BA in English and History, a post-graduate diploma in Digital Marketing and is currently a participant on Screen Skills Ireland’s prestigious Advanced Producers programme. He is represented by the Marianne Gunn O’Connor Agency.

Patrick McGivney - Harp Media

Patrick McGivney is a director, writer, producer and co-founder of Harp Media. He is a Business and Law graduate of University College Dublin with a Masters in International Business from the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.

He brings 7 years of business development experience to the company, having worked as a Consultant on the Operational Effectiveness team within PwC’s Advisory Consulting division. During his time with PwC, Patrick worked on numerous consulting engagements across a broad range of industries. He specialised in change management and process design, helping clients to navigate challenging periods and designing solutions which aligned with their strategic objectives. In his capacity as a Manager, he led a number of project teams responsible for delivering a wide range of project deliverables, from re-designed ‘to be’ processes to implementation and change management plans.

His role also involved working closely with key stakeholders to ensure client engagement and the long term viability of the agreed change. During his time at PwC he was nominated for three ‘Above and Beyond’ awards for Client Excellence.

 

Chris Higgins - Harp Media

Chris Higgins is a writer/director/editor who has worked with Harp Media extensively over the next few years. He co-produced the short film ‘Drifting’ starring Paul Mescal and Dafhyd Flynn and the upcoming feature film ‘Lakelands’ starring Eanna Hardwicke and Danielle Galligan. The film premiered at Galway Film Fleadh where it won Best Irish Film and the Bingham Ray New Talent Award for its lead actors Éanna Hardwicke and Danielle Galligan. It then won Best Narrative Film at Kerry Film Festival. He is a graduate of Pulse College’s Film Production course and BCFE’s Cinematography course. As a director his student films have screened at IndieCork Film Festival and Underground Cinema Film Festival. His first short Big Secret was featured on TV3’s morning show ‘Ireland AM’, where he was an interviewee. His next short film ‘Duffle Bag Boy’ is currently post production and will premiere next year.
